AI visibility score is the overall 0–100 metric that combines how frequently your brand appears in AI answers, where it ranks in those answers, and the tone used when it’s mentioned compared to competitors.
AI visibility score is a metric that summarizes how consistently and prominently a brand appears in AI-generated answers across a defined set of prompts and AI platforms. It turns several observations about your AI presence into one number that you can track over time:
how often you're mentioned (mention rate),
how often you're cited as a source (citation rate),
your average ranking,
and how many relevant questions you appear for (query coverage).
If you remember one thing: AI presence score tells you how visible your brand is in a defined set of AI answers; it does not have one universal calculation or tell you the whole story about your AI presence.
Formula
There is no single industry-standard formula for AI search visibility score. But you can still get an answer on how an AI visibility score is calculated.
AI Visibility Score = (answers that mention your brand ÷ total tracked answers) × 100
or
AI Visibility Score = (Mention Rate × 0.30) + (Citation Rate × 0.25) + (Average Position Score × 0.20) + (Query Coverage × 0.15) + (Sentiment Score × 0.10)
The AI visibility score works by aggregating several key performance indicators into one weighted number:
Data collection. Tracks performance across real user prompts on multiple AI platforms.
Metric weighting. Gives different importance to mention rate, citations, position, etc.
Normalization. Converts raw data into a 0–100 scale for easy comparison.
Trend analysis. Monitors how the score changes over time or after optimizations.
Competitive benchmarking. Compares your score against competitors in the same industry.
You'll see this metric under several names.

AI presence score
An AI visibility score combines several measurements of how your brand appears in AI-generated answers. Each metric captures a different part of your AI visibility:
Mention rate: How often does AI name the brand?
Citation rate: How often does AI cite the brand's content or domain?
Position and prominence: How prominently does the brand appear?
**Share of voice**: How much visibility does the brand have versus competitors?
Recommendation rate: How often does AI actively recommend the brand?
**Sentiment** and framing: How does AI describe or position the brand?
Prompt or topic coverage: Across how many relevant topics or questions does the brand appear?
Platform or engine coverage: Across how many AI engines does the brand appear?
Consistency: How reliably does the brand appear across repeated measurements?
Source authority: What kind of sources support the information AI uses?
Not every AI visibility score uses all of these metrics, and the weights can differ substantially. The most useful way to interpret a score is to understand which metrics the measurement includes, how they are calculated, and what denominator and prompt set are being used.

Start by working out which part of your visibility is weak.
AI rarely mentions your brand for relevant questions. Build content that directly answers the questions your buyers ask and connects your brand with the categories, use cases, and problems you serve.
Your brand information is inconsistent. Use the same brand name, description, category, and core facts across your website and important third-party profiles.
Competitors appear where you don't. Compare the prompts where competitors are mentioned and identify the sources, topics, and evidence that repeatedly appear around those answers.
AI mentions you but rarely cites your content. Strengthen the pages you want used as sources with clear answers, evidence, named authors, original information, and sourceable facts.
Your visibility varies by platform or topic. Break the score down by platform and prompt group instead of treating the overall number as one problem.
There is no universal good score. The number depends on the industry, prompt set, platforms, competitors, and calculation method. With Beamtrace, the score represents the percentage of tracked prompt runs in which an AI answer mentions your business, expressed on a 0–100 scale.
AI visibility can change as AI models, search results, competitors, and the information available to AI systems change. For that reason, it is more useful to measure your score regularly than to rely on a one-time snapshot.
Track the AI platforms that your potential customers are likely to use when researching your category. Depending on your audience and measurement setup, this can include ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Grok, and AI-powered search experiences.
Not directly, as AI visibility score and organic search performance measure different things. Traditional SEO focuses on how pages rank in search results, while AI visibility measures whether AI systems mention or recommend your business in generated answers. But these two can influence each other indirectly.
